I have a dream

This phrase sounds familiar right? It’s the title of Martin Luther Kings speech about fighting apartheid and the title of the song in Tangled where Rapunzel dances and sings on stage in front of many people about her dream of seeing the lights. We know about their dreams but how about your dream? What is your dream?

This is for the dreamers out there <3

Everyone interprets having a dream differently. One is dreaming about being rich. One is dreaming about having their dream car or it’s simply just to live a long and healthy life.

No matter what it is, how big or how small, how hard or how easy it is to achieve, with the right mind, passion and dedication, everyone can achieve their goals sooner or later in life.

I want you to take a minute and reflect on your life. What was one thing you’ve ever wanted so badly, that you’d give up everything else for? What would you want to do if money really didn’t matter and if you’d have to dedicate the rest of your life to it?

What makes you the person you are?

… What makes you truly happy…?

Think about it.

Now that you’ve probably thought about it for a hot minute, I’m sure you feel kind of euphoric and happy. You know what you want and you can’t wait to work for it. You can visualize the goal so well, it almost feels as if you were able to have it directly in front of you if you just moved a few metres further and then, realisation and doubt hit you right in the face. But don’t let it discourage you. And do me one favor:

Don’t tell ANYONE about your dreams except if you’re sure that this person will 100% believe in you and encourage you because these feelings of doubt and discouragement are created by the people who don’t have the ability to think big.

They once had big dreams too like you and me but they’ve never even dared to try and if they tried, they failed and did not get up again. They gave up and chose the only “right way” (for them). They probably have told small minded people about their dreams too. What they fail to understand is that this is your life and your life only. They’ve had their opportunity and some of them still have but that’s their cup of tea. If they’re not willing to work hard to achieve their dreams, you can’t force them but at the same time you should listen to your heart and try not to become influenced in any way by their thoughts.  Also, some of them might not even want to see you succeed in the first place as this will trigger their self esteem and they might think: “if I wasn’t able to do it, why would other people, they’re no better than me”.

Your dreams are your dreams only and no one can take them from you. Please remember that.

Society will always throw rocks into your way and life is unfair. We’re all born with different opportunities and privileges but if you really put your mind to it and work for it, I’ll promise you that you’ll get closer to your goals day by day until you reach them. It might take a week, a month, a year or even a decade but it’ll be worth it in the end. You will find a way. Your own way to do it.

The same way as no one can tell you to not run after your goals, no one can tell you how to get there either. Many people have achieved similar goals to yours. Even if you think that y’all have the same goal, your goals are the same but different. You will never achieve your goal by copying the exact footsteps someone else took because you are not them. You are you. What’s meant for them is meant for them and what’s meant for you is meant for you. You will figure everything out by yourself and do the things that seem right for you and if they’re wrong, you’ll have learnt your lesson and do things differently the next time. I believe in you.

I myself have a dream.

I see myself on a big stage and perform in front of hundreds and thousands of people. I want to comfort other people and help people out of their darkness and give them a little light that will keep them going when they’re at their lowest. I want to donate and help people in serious need. I want to be inspirational and motivational for others. I want to master all my different hobbies such as being multilingual, figure skating, playing the piano, dancing,... the list goes on. I want to prove that hard work will reward you afterwards.

I could go on for hours and hours talking about everything in detail but I think that this might be a story for another blog post.

I also face worries and an environment which doesn’t support me fulfilling my dreams. But here I am. With creating this blog I’ve made the first big step, one of thousands and maybe one day people will acknowledge the things I have to say. Even if I help just one person out there, all my efforts will be worth it. I am so proud of creating this blog.

This is another thing you have to keep in mind. Don’t just focus on all the mistakes you’re making along the way but acknowledge the good you’ve done so far. Be proud of everything you do! I really mean it. No matter how big or how small the thing is you did. Celebrate it as it brings you one step further within your journey. And be proud of your mistakes. A mistake doesn’t make you a failure, it simply helps you grow. We need to make mistakes in order to learn from it and make something right the next time.

How exactly do we start to work on our dreams?

Well, there’s no right or wrong answer to that question but I have some tips that might actually help you to start to act on it:

Clearly define your dream

You need to have a clear definition of what your dream is. A simple five to seven word sentence won’t do it. Here’s what you’re gonna do. Take a piece of paper and write down everything your dream involves. What are you going to look like?

What do you smell like? What do you own?

What is your job?

Do you have pets?

How much money do you have?

Where do you live?

Do you have a partner?

etc. it doesn’t have to be exactly such questions but you get what I mean. Write down an ideal day in your future life. Be as creative as you can be. You don’t have to show this to anyone. These are your dreams and your dreams only, no need to hold anything back.

Now take that piece of paper and place it somewhere in your room where you can see it daily or store it away and read it aloud every day after waking up and going to bed to visualize it.

(Another thing you can do is to do a vision board! You probably have heard about it already. And if not, no problem. I’ll explain it to you. A vision board can be everything. A piece of paper you drew your goals on, a board where you cut out some pictures you’ve seen in the newspapers that align with your goals or you search for pictures for example on pinterest and arrange them on a canvas. There are no limits to your creativity. It’s just there for you to visualize the written word. 🙂

Here’s mine for example:

2. Summarize the text into actionable steps

Try to summarize the text into big actionable steps.

Now pick the three most important steps on the list. These three steps are the ones that build the foundation of your goal.

Then take these three steps and categorize them into smaller baby steps. No matter how small they are. These will be the tasks you’ll be working on for the next year or however much time you need. But don’t rush things. Good things take time.

Once you’re done with all of these three big steps, you can move on but until then, we’ll take it slow.

3. DON’T RUSH THINGS!!!

In order to adapt to a new habit, the human needs about 21 days of constant repetition to adapt to the new habit so I’d recommend that you take one step at a time. Two maximum. I can’t stress this enough. Trying to rush things and trying to do everything at once will only lead you to misery. You’ll be burnt out in no time and it’ll be harder to keep going.

4. Don’t listen to what other people are telling you

Different people have different experiences. Just because their dreams didn’t work out doesn’t mean that your dreams won’t work out as well. People will judge you. People will hate on you and they will try to stop you but you know better. People can give you advice and you can listen to it but in the end you’ll decide whether you’re listening to their advice and apply it or leave it as it is and go on with what you’re planning to do.

Last but not least:

5. Stay consistent.

It might take you a while to get to the point of where you can say that you did it. Or the time may never come as you imagine it to be and that’s totally okay. But in order to be anywhere close to achieving your goal you must put discipline over motivation. You know, motivation will come and go. It’s important to not rely on motivation because one day you’ll be so motivated and confident that you want to go all in and on the other day you actually can’t get yourself to do it because you’re lacking motivation. When you’re disciplined on the other hand you’ll put in a little work day by day, one day more and one day a little less but it won’t make a significant difference in time. You’ll improve day by day, little by little. It’s the same as with weight loss. You won’t really lose weight with motivation because one day you’re really motivated and go all in. You hit your 10k steps, go to the gym and eat healthy and high-in-protein meals but then the other day you weigh yourself, you don’t see results immediately and then you’ll lose motivation. What happens next? Well, you’re most likely to give up and tell yourself that you’ll start tomorrow all over again. But the good thing is , discipline can be learned! (I’ll write an article about that soon)

I hope that this was kind of helpful for you!

No matter where you’re from and what you have had to go through in your life so far. I’m sure it must’ve been hard no matter what it was but it doesn’t define you. If you ever think that you can’t do it, think about that there’s at least one person who’s praying for you to achieve everything you’ve ever wanted. Even though we might never know each other in real life, I’ll always be rooting for you and I strongly believe that you can achieve everything you want to achieve because you’re strong and powerful. You’ve survived 100% of all of your bad days so far and you’ll survive all the dozens of bad days that'll maybe follow in the near future.

I want to say one more thing before I end this post:

“Are the dreams you think of night and day, that keep you up at night and make you cry because you want to achieve them so badly, so unimportant that you’re not acting on them to make them your reality?”

Read that again and think about it,

I’m proud of you and I’m sure you’ll make everyone proud you care for too. I’m so interested in what your dreams are about and I would absolutely love to know everything about them. Even if I’ll never know about your dreams, I’m sure you’re excited to meet your dreams and please remember that your dreams are excited to meet you too <3
